What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program that helps Canadians without private dental insurance access affordable dental care. It’s designed for seniors, families with young children, adults with disabilities, and anyone whose household earns less than $90,000 per year. The program covers essential dental services like checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, crowns, dentures, and even some oral surgeries.
Who Can Get CDCP Benefits?
You may qualify for CDCP if you meet certain conditions. Coral Springs Dental helps you assess whether you are eligible. Here are the usual criteria:
- Seniors (65+) who have low or modest income and do not have private dental insurance
- Children and youth under 18 years whose families meet the income eligibility thresholds
- Adults who lack employer-provided or private dental insurance and fall within the income eligibility range
- Residents of Canada, and in particular, NE Calgary residents, are fulfilling residency requirements.
If you’re unsure, our staff is happy to review your situation and help you determine if the Canada seniors dental plan or other CDCP benefits apply to you.

Getting Started with CDCP
Applying is pretty straightforward: Go online through your My Service Canada Account, give them a call at (403) 568-0456, or send in your application by mail.
What you’ll need: Your Social Insurance Number, birth date, current address, and last year’s Notice of Assessment. You’ll also confirm you don’t have private coverage.
After approval, you’ll get a welcome package that explains when your coverage starts and what percentage of costs are covered.
Using your benefits: Once you’re covered, just visit a dentist who takes CDCP patients. They’ll bill Sun Life directly, and you only pay your share (if there is one).
Finding a dentist: Sun Life has a search tool on its website to help you find clinics near you that accept the plan.
